Germany: SMA Reports Interim Third Quarter Results
In
the third quarter of 2009, SMA Solar Technology saw strong demand
for SMA photovoltaic inverters in Germany and abroad, sales rose
by 38 % to c. EUR 312 million in the third quarter (previous year
quarter: EUR 226.7 million).
Consequently,
SMA generated an 8 % surge in sales to c. EUR 559 million in the
first nine months of fiscal 2009 (previous year nine months: EUR
519.3 million). The international markets continued to make a
key contribution to total sales in the first nine months. In the
third quarter of 2009, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT)
amounted to c. EUR 86 million (previous year quarter: EUR 63.1
million).
Accordingly,
SMA improved its EBIT in the reporting period January to September
2009 to c. EUR 120 million (previous year nine months: EUR 131.8
million). The EBIT margin is c. 21.5 % (previous year nine months:
25.4 %).
On the basis of the positive business performance in the third
quarter SMA management has increased its sales forecast for fiscal
2009 to EUR 760 to 810 million (previous forecast: EUR 680 to
730 million).
Thus
management anticipates an increase in total sales by c. 19 % compared
to the previous year (2008: EUR 681.6 million). The EBIT margin
is estimated to be 21.5 % to 23.5 % (previous forecast: 18 % to
20 %).
On
November 13, SMA Solar Technology AG will publish its Quarterly
Financial Report for the period January to September 2009.
