Pozzolo
Formigaro, Italy: Lux to Commence Wafer Production
At
the beginning of July, Lux signed an agreement with ALD Vacuum
Technologies GmbH for the supply of a type SCU400plus DSS (directional
solidification system). The furnace is used to grow multicrystalline
ingots.
The
installation of the furnace will start at the beginning of October
at the company's facility of Pozzolo Formigaro, in northern Italy.
This will allow the start up of the first wafer producer in Italy
that same month.
Lux
capacity will amount to 200,000 pieces per month. The wafers will
be manufactured using virgin polysilicon to grant the high quality
needed to enter in the actual photovoltaic market.
Other
than wafer production, Lux is now entering in an agreement to
also start solar cell production. The further cells production
will allow the company to enter the Italian market in a more complete
manner.
The
Lux manufacturing start up has been facilitated by funding from
Piemonte County, via the European Community.
Following
a period of market studies, the company will start with its own
wafer production to satisfy part of Italian demand for wafers
as well as some European demand.
Lux says its initiative opens the doors for to achieve the first
Italian photovoltaic vertically integrated chain, for manufacture
of solar modules in Italy.
