Manasquan,
NJ, USA: Norkus Enterprises Goes Solar
Solis
Partners LLC, a full-service integrator of commercial solar power
systems, and one of New Jersey’s providers of renewable energy
solutions, today announced the completion of the fourth of six
installations for Norkus Enterprises, operator of Foodtown supermarkets
across Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey. The combined
system will be one of America’s largest Solyndra™ solar photovoltaic
systems.

Designed,
engineered and constructed by Manasquan, NJ-based, Solis Partners,
the systems consist of approximately 2,700 Solyndra solar panels,
producing over 600,000 kWh of electricity and eliminating more
than 820,000 pounds of CO2 emissions annually. The system’s ability
to cover more rooftop area and capture more light than traditional
flat-plated panels will result in more annual solar electricity
generation and will provide clean, low-cost power for more than
25 years.
“We
are thrilled to help Norkus Foodtown set the environmental bar
even higher by pioneering the development and deployment of six
rooftop solar power generation systems," said Jamie Hahn, Managing
Director of Solis Partners. “To be at the forefront of making
solar energy a part of the supermarket environment is important.
We are pleased to be working with the Norkus team to set an example
of affordable, sustainable and clean energy for supermarket facilities.”
Solis
Partners is one of America’s leading integrator’s of solar photovoltaic
systems manufactured by Solyndra in the US. The Solyndra panels
are designed to optimize solar electricity production on commercial
rooftops. These unique panels employ cylindrical modules which
capture sunlight across a 360-degree photovoltaic surface capable
of converting direct, diffuse and reflected sunlight from the
rooftop into electricity. The Solyndra system is lightweight,
non-penetrating and achieves over a 130 mph wind rating as the
panels allow wind to blow through them. These factors enable the
installation of solar PV on a broader range of rooftops without
traditional anchoring or ballast required with flat-plated panels,
which are inherently problematic.
“We
are extremely proud to be at the forefront of this growing technology,”
said Mark Norkus, vice president of Norkus Enterprises. “Over
the past year, we studied our use of electricity throughout our
six Foodtown locations and worked with Solis to develop the best
method to becoming a more environmentally friendly company. We
are very pleased with the results and are happy that Norkus is
leading the charge to switch to renewable energy in our industry.”
All
specified roof design, preparation and installation required prior
to the solar deployment were performed by L.R. Watts & Sons Roofing,
Perth Amboy NJ.
