Braunschweig,   Germany

solarSTEP GmbH & Co. KG, a German engineering, procurement and construction company, and German-American utility scale solar project developer Frontier Renewables completed a 1 MWp solar PV plant in Braunschweig, Germany. The plant, known as Frontier-BS-Zwei, will generate enough electricity to power 300 homes.

The plant spans six rooftops, totaling more than 30,000 square meters or 5 football fields, consisting of 4118 solar modules. It will produce approximately 960,000 kwhs in electricity per year and the power will be fed directly into the local grid operated by BS Energy. Avoided emissions from Frontier-BS-Zwei will be an estimated 1.4 million lbs/year of CO2, the primary source of global warming and climate change.

“We are proud of the excellent technical, financial and legal execution of this project – owed to the professional input of all our project partners,“ said Enno Berner, chief executive officer at solarSTEP GmbH & Co. KG.

Frontier, based in Wolfsburg, Germany and Beverly Hills, CA, developed the project and sold the majority of it to external investors. solarSTEP did the engineering, procurement and construction and finished the project ahead of schedule. ReneSola supplied the modules; Refusol the inverters. DZ Bank provided project finance.

“We are pleased to have partnered with solarSTEP to complete this second large rooftop project in the Streiff industrial complex,’’ said Balduin Hesse, chief executive officer of Frontier. “We are also happy to have worked with BS Energy, Streiff Holding and DZ Bank for a second time. The execution, using solarSTEP’s proprietary mounting system, was seamless.“

Frontier-BS-Zwei is located on the industrial premises owned by Streiff Holding GmbH & Co. KG, a Braunschweig-based company with diverse real estate holdings including distribution warehouses. It is the second of two plants, totaling more than 2 MWs, that were built in the industrial complex.
