Grossroehrsdorf,
Germany: Sunfilm AG Holds Topping-Out Ceremony for Module Plant
Sunfilm
AG celebrated today, almost exactly one year after Sunfilm’s first
building, the “Topping-Out Ceremony” (Richtfest) for its second
photovoltaic module production facility.
Construction
of the new 20.000 m2 plant will be finalized in early 2009 for
production equipment to be moved-in early in 2009, as scheduled.
This second line, which is situated next to Sunfilm’s first production
facility in Grossroehrsdorf, will also receive equipment from
Applied Materials, Inc., Santa Clara. It will be able to produce
thin film silicon modules based on the Tandem Junction technology
with a nominal annual capacity of more than 60 MWp.
Beginning
of pre-production is scheduled for mid 2009 whereas commercial
production will start later that year. The two plants together
will bring Sunfilm’s annual capacity to over 120 MWp and set a
benchmark for high efficiency thin film silicon modules in an
ultra-large format of up to 5.7m².
Wolfgang
Heinze, Sunfilm’s Chairman of the Executive Board stated, "We
are pleased to announce this important milestone and it is the
right event to thank all contributors who made this happen. Among
others we would like to thank the Saxonian and local authorities
for their tremendous support. We also want to thank our design
firms, general contractors and sub-contractors for maintaining
the project schedule while providing high quality work."
"We
continue to execute our vision and strategy at full speed even
under these changing global market conditions. We are glad to
be able to offer additional new jobs during these difficult economic
times”, Mr. Heinze added.
For
the ceremony Sunfilm welcomed several officials, among those the
former Saxonian Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Milbradt and other guests
who were directly involved in the design and construction work,
such as representatives of the general contractors: ib vogt GmbH,
IPRO Dresden, Eurovia VBU GmbH, Goldbeck Ost GmbH and Wisag Service
Holding GmbH & Co. KG, as well as Sunfilm’s employees, neighbours
and local residents. The second production line will create up
to 200 new workplaces for a wide variety of skill levels including
ten additional apprenticeship positions.
