Beltsville,
MD, USA: SunEdison Appoints Vice President, International
SunEdison
has named 21- year international energy and communications executive
Len Jornlin as Vice President of International. As Vice President
of International, Jornlin will oversee SunEdison’s strategic global
growth in Canada, Europe and other global markets outside the
U.S.
In
addition to identifying viable solar deployment strategies globally
for SunEdison, Jornlin will oversee international joint ventures
and manage strategic finance and supply relationships.
Jornlin
will also oversee the strategic direction for SunEdison Canada,
which recently announced the award of two Standard Offer Contracts
to build, own, operate, and maintain utility-scale parks in Ontario.
The first will be a 9.12 megawatt solar park in Norfolk County
and the second will be a similarly-sized solar park in the Thunder
Bay area. SunEdison Canada is teaming with SkyPower in a joint
venture on these large projects.
“SunEdison
is working closely with traditional energy companies and state
agencies to deploy solar under power purchase agreements at the
appropriate scale and price for organizations in Canada, Europe
and Asia. The next move for many organizations is to deploy utility-scale
solar projects to meet increasing energy demand and avoid the
build out, costs and environmental damage from new or expanded
fossilfuel sources. As the cost of delivered solar power continues
to decline, more organizations and public and private companies
are seeking to make solar a significant part of their utility
purchase,” said Jornlin.
Jigar
Shah, CEO of SunEdison noted, “The SunEdison solar energy services
model, and our promise of service through the life of a solar
facility, has opened the door for solar. For SunEdison to help
deploy globally, we must act locally. Every country, every province
and region has its own rules and regulations regarding the deployment
of solar. That is part of what makes solar complex. SunEdison
will be uniquely positioned to simplify solar for its international
clients by delivering utility-scale solar as a service.”
Added
Jornlin, “Today more organizations understand that solar electricity
is equal to or beats the retail costs of traditional fossil-fuel
electricity and that solar is not subject to the extreme price
increases of traditional electricity. This means for many companies
they can purchase solar electricity under long-term agreed-upon
pricing. This is an important equation in the deployment of solar
around the world.”
Jornlin
has over 21 years experience in the energy, water and telecommunications
markets in more than 30 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin
America and North America. Since creating new opportunities and
holding leadership roles in the solar industry since 1994, Jornlin
has held leadership positions in global business development for
AstroPower and for North America commercial projects for BP Solar.
He has overseen solar projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Prior
to joining the solar industry, Jornlin worked in regulatory affairs
and strategy for Bell Atlantic Corporation, started and led the
Energy Division for the US-ASEAN Business Council on behalf of
Fortune 500 corporate clients and, living in South Asia, served
as Regional President & COO for International Development Enterprises,
an organization he grew from 62 to 134 staff and from one to three
countries. Jornlin holds a BS in international relations from
Colgate University and a joint degree in international business
and economic development from the University of Chicago.
